His harrowing ordeal at the hands of villainous Josh Tucker left fans on the brink of tears.
Speaking to the ITV soap’s official blog, Jack, 30, praised producers for the hard-hitting plot which saw David left a broken man after being drugged and raped by Josh.
He’s gone: Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd has hinted his time on the soap could be coming to an end after David Platt’s horrific rape ordeal
He said: ‘I’ve been in the show for 18 years now and played every single storyline you could possibly play.
‘Ultimately in soaps I think if it does change the character then you must see what you want from the character. Do you want David Platt to change and if so why? If he does change, does he eventually have to leave?
‘After a while the character must come to terms with what has happened to them and move on, then you can live out other stories. If they don’t, then what do they do?
‘Will they be depressed or do they leave? It comes down to that really. David has been through a lot, he’s a resilient character. He’s had numerous people trying to kill him before and his wife died, so there are things that he’s got over and come out the other side.’
Rough ride: The 30-year-old actor told the Coronation Street blog that David could be pushed to leave the Street after he struggling to move forward from his rape ordeal
Broken man: Harrowing scenes aired in March saw David drugged and pushed onto a bed semi-conscious by his so-called ‘friend’ Josh
Fans saw the brutal build-up and aftermath of David’s ordeal back in March, when Josh was seen throwing him onto the bed in a semi-conscious state after spiking his drink.
While nothing was shown on-screen, Josh could be heard undoing his trousers before closing the bedroom door, with the following episode showing David awake in Josh’s bed.
Despite many viewers branding the story ‘uncomfortable,’ Jack added that he’s received plenty of praise from fans and victims’ support groups for taking on the plot.
Dramatic: Nothing of the act was shown on-screen, but Josh could be heard undoing his trousers while looking over David in a sinister manner
Over: In the aftermath, Josh has repeatedly professed that he has done nothing wrong, and despite eventually being arrested for the crime was soon released without charge
He added: ‘People saying that they’ve enjoyed watching the storyline. Then they always hesitate and say, ‘I shouldn’t really say that as it’s not something you should enjoy’ but what they mean is that it’s been a good topic and it needed to be addressed.
‘It’s interesting because when it was released in the press that we were going to do this storyline there was a lot of response with people saying it’s disgusting, Corrie shouldn’t be putting that on the screen, it’s a family show.
‘As soon as it went on screen people realised that you didn’t see David get raped, all you saw was a door slamming shut and you knew what was going to happen after that. It let the audience use their own imagination.
‘The storyline was more about the aftermath and the mental effect that happened with David. People got it and it was a good story, I think Corrie played it out really well.’
Dark: Jack went onto reveal he’s received much praise from fans and victims groups for taking on the shocking storyline
In the aftermath of David’s dark experience, Josh seemingly received his comeuppance, being left blind by a violent assault from another man he planned to target.
But his time on the Street isn’t over yet, as kind-hearted vicar Billy has offered Josh a place to stay after he left hospital, despite David furious to see his attacker far from behind bars.
Coronation Street continues on Wednesday 26th September at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
