Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack set to join Australian side Central Coast Mariners on season-long loan

Aston Villa have agreed to send Ross McCormack on a season loan to Australian side Central Coast Mariners.

The finer details of the deal are still being ironed out but the 32-year-old is expected to join the A-League side from next week ahead of their season starting in October.

McCormack also had interest from A-League rivals Wellington Phoenix following his impressive loan spell with Melbourne City last season when he scored 14 goals in 16 games.

Melbourne have signed McCormack’s Aston Villa clubmate, defender Ritchie de Laet, 29, on loan.

The Scottish forward moved to Villa Park from Fulham as Roberto Di Matteo’s marquee signing in 2016 and still has just under two years left on his current contract.
