Portugal’s stars, including Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches, appeared to be feeling the effects of Sunday’s training session and looked physically drained come the end of it.
Santos’ men are heavily reliant upon Ronaldo, but the manager did not begrudge his star man for choosing to sit out of this month’s international matches.
He said: ‘After talking to the player, and after he moved to Juventus with all the processes of adaptation that entails, we understand it was best for him to not be present for these games.’
Ronaldo, who also enjoyed a relaxed trip to Sardinia last week, will be aiming to get himself firing fit in time for Juventus’ match against Sassuolo next Sunday as he looks to break his goal-scoring duck for his new club.
