Em then looked directly at the camera and said: ‘Do we have that on record? I’m not going back. Not to breakfast radio. At all.’

She added: I’m just not built for that kind of lifestyle. And I don’t want my kids to look back and always remember me as grumpy and tired.’

Em lamented the toll that the early starts had on her, saying: ‘Come 4 o-clock [in the afternoon] I’m just a zombie. So I think I wanted to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy.’

‘I worked the day I gave birth,’ she said. ‘In Perth. Nearly 12 years ago. I literally left the studio and went to the hospital.

‘I was back four weeks after I gave birth.’

Em said he felt pressured to go back to work at the time: ‘I was the sole income earner and there was no maternity leave. We needed money. So I went straight back.’

When guest Denise Scott asked Em what the most challenging part of working in breakfast radio was, she said: ‘The hours, and not swearing. And not being too opinionated.

‘I am polarising. Making myself be palatable to the general public was tough.’

Em did admit however that she is ‘too much’ sometimes, and that “shooshing” is required’.
