Jordan Zimmermann, Tigers beat light-hitting Cubs 2-1

DETROIT (AP) – Jordan Zimmermann pitched six efficient innings, Victor Martinez had three hits and the Detroit Tigers beat the slumping Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

Zimmermann (6-5) allowed seven hits, struck out 5 and walked one, persevering with Chicago’s distress. Drew VerHagen, Joe Jimenez and Shane Greene mixed for 3 innings of one-hit reduction, closing out Detroit’s second win in seven video games.

The NL Central-leading Cubs had been held to 1 run through homer for the fifth straight sport, dropping the final three within the offensive slide.
